Parts of A Compass

First, here are some basic parts of the compass. The first part I will mention is the Direction Arrow. The Direction Arrow should always be pointed in the direction you want to travel. Next are the Measuring Scales. These can be used when you are using your compass with a map, to measure distances and help you understand the scale of the map. I will talk more about this in the Map Reading sections. The Magnifying Glass is another helpful tool you will use when reading a map. Next up are the two most important tools you will be using to find your way. The Needle will always point North (The red half). The Degrees spin around the needle area to find the correct bearing.
